Cablenoticias under New Ownership

November 6, 2012

Developed by Juan Gonzalo Angel Restrepo in 2007, Cablenoticias, the first 24-hour news channel in Colombia, was sold to a shareholder of Globovision in August 2011. Alberto Federico Ravell purchased 100% of the cable news channel for 17 million dollars, with 10 million dollars in cash and the remainder to be paid in installments. Under the previous ownership, the cable channel was focused on providing 16 nations and more than five million viewers with news programming that was centered on integrity. With an emphasis placed upon research and story development, Mr. Angel Restrepo ensured that Cablenoticias concentrated on the most current political, economic, and social news. The new ownership hopes to provide the same service. Ravell believes there is a niche for 24-hour news programming in Colombia, and that the channel fills a need for information.

Mr. Angel Restrepo’s decision to sell Cablenoticias came with his realization that the channel needed a heavy hitting journalist like Ravell for growth. Ravell has stated that the current Cablenoticias staff will remain, but the news channel’s schedule will be changing.
